NaNoWriMo 2023 Pre-Thoughts
NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow, and I do not feel prepared at all.
I've talked about my "Frolicking with Fairies" project, and while I am excited about it, other plot bunnies have started to take form and take attention anyway from it. It's a dark romance series that embodies the Seven Deadly Sins as they fall in love. I know the concept has been done before, but I can put my own spin on it. Luckily, I've already made the Pinterest board and named all the Sins and their love interests, and that has made the bunny stop hopping for a moment so I can focus on my Fairies.
But even with that done, I don't feel as prepared as I was last year. Last year, I was drafting a twelve-book series, and I had a clearer idea of what I wanted the entire series to be, and that hasn't clicked yet with this series. Book 1's outline is done because I knew what I wanted going into it. But the other three books are so confusing at this point. I know the major things that I want to happen in each book, but other than that, I have no idea what's happening with the characters or in the world. Right now, my main characters feel so flat and like they have no true personality, and that scares me because I'm usually so connected with characters.
The only thing that I can do is be ready to discover a lot of them while I'm writing these books. Also, the world isn't that fleshed out yet, but I have a map, which is always fun. But I have a general arc for both characters and their love story, so I just have to work with what I have.
Okay, here are my goals for NaNoWriMo this year:
Hit the 50,000 word count goal
Complete the Book 1 Zero Draft
Make Major Progress with Books 2-4
Write Every Day (No Matter How Words I Write)
Update my Author's Log Every Day
While I don't feel totally prepared this year, I've won NaNoWriMo with much less prep, so I know I can do it.
