Author’s Log: NaNoWriMo 2023 Day 1
Day 1 of NaNoWriMo, and things are going well surprisingly.
I had said before that I didn't feel prepared for this NaNoWriMo because I haven't outlined as much of the series as I had last year. One thing I have to remind myself is that last year it was a twelve-book series, and this year it's a four-book series, so it's harder to condense an arc that much, but I am very excited to write this story.
I hit my 1,667-word goal by noon and ended up writing the first two chapters of the first book, which was so satisfying. Then I spent the rest of the day just brain-dumping more of the plot for book one, which was very funny because, for the actual quest that happens during book one, I have no idea how my characters find parts of the crown so it's basically just "we have to" and "this should be" and "we need to get" spread throughout multiple chapters.
After I brain dump more of the novels, I'll come back and fill in the blanks, but for now, it's funny to see how much room there is for growth in this novel.
Overall, today was just a fun start, and I'm happy to already be a day ahead in word count. I hope I can keep this lead.
