Author’s Log: NaNoWriMo 2023 Day 4
Day 4 of NaNoWriMo, and I got to Chapter 10 of Book 1.
Today, I participated in a writing sprint livestream for the first time. It was hosted by Bethany Atazadeh, an indie author who makes a lot of helpful author videos on YouTube (I highly recommend her channel for both writing help and if you are planning to go indie). She was running a writing workshop throughout Preptober where we plotted a book with her (coincidentally a fae fairytale retelling, hers is Beauty and the Beast inspired) and created a fun community of Authors there. She decided to host some writing sprint livestreams during NaNoWriMo, and I want to see if I liked it. Usually, I get distracted with other people around because I'm always interested in what they're doing, but since it wasn't a crazy Zoom chat or in a public setting, I really could focus on my writing, and I got a lot done. I think I did a solid 1,000 words during the stream, which added to the one-day lead I had already.
Along with that, I was just able to get some solid writing done on the first few chapters of Book 1. I am quickly approaching the End of Act 1, which is exciting yet terrifying because I'm still trying to figure out Act 2. I definitely have a lot of places I can skip around to write in, but the order of what's happening plot-wise is still foggy.
But I came up with a quick synopsis of my WIP to help me along:
"Arabella is partially content in her tower in the mountains, though a longing to see what lies behind them calls her now and then. But when a Banished Prince, Gray, climbs into her home and accidentally transports her to a Land of Magic being sieged by his uncle, she is forced to help him find a Powerful Lost Crown to free his people so she can get back home. Though Arabella stays in her tower for a reason, every moment she's with Gray makes her question everything she knows and that maybe her safety isn't contingent upon a place, but a person she doesn't think could go back to living without. Rapunzel and Her Prince like never before."
What do you think of it? What would you expect to see in a story with this premise? Let me know in a comment down below, and I hope you are having a fun NaNoWriMo so far.
