Author’s Log: NaNoWriMo 2022 Day 8

Day 8 of NaNoWriMo, and your girl is on a roll!

I was able to take a lot of writing breaks today, and I was able to figure out some emotional scenes in Books 2 and 7 which, in my opinion, hit.

If you need the motivation to keep going with NaNoWriMo or just writing in general, break your work into chunks. Don't focus on writing 1,667 words a day. Just focus on ten words at a time. It sounds like nothing, but that's the point. As long as you're not feverishly counting the ten, you will most of the time end up writing more than ten words without even thinking. And then over time, the extra words you write will help dwindle the number of words you have left to write.

Another thing I like to do is this 80-in-1 challenge. The goal is to write 80 words in 1 minute. Now full disclosure, I've never beat this challenge, but every time I attempt it, I write 40 words in a minute without thinking. Sometimes even 60.

This all wraps around the main point of NaNoWriMo. To write without getting in your own way. Just focus on the small milestones, and you'll reach the big ones in no time.

Total Words Logged: 17,303

How do you feel about Your Work?: Great! I'm so happy with one of the scenes I wrote today because it adds more depth to one of my main characters and her relationship with another character.

Something Fun that Happened Today: Watching Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2 and building in the Sims. I built the cutest Western Bubble Tea Shop!
