Author’s Log: NaNoWriMo 2023 Day 24

Day 24 of NaNoWriMo, and I won NaNoWriMo, but I don't feel accomplished.

I had the drive to complete my 50,000-word count today, and I finished it with time to spare. Yet, I don't feel like I've accomplished anything at all.

I've talked about how at one point this month I really started to hate the book I was writing and how the sudden loss of my uncle had me switching to journaling for the month to talk out my feelings. While I will say that this did wonders for keeping my mental health afloat these past few weeks, it still feels weird to be nearing the end of NaNoWriMo with nothing to show for my story.

I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that this is honestly what was best for me at this phase of life, but it still feels sad not to have a story to put in the archives after this month.

Maybe in these last six days of November, I find some passion for storytelling again, but, right now, I'm just happy to be done with my word count.
